A Calm Before the Storm
Hurricane Irene cancelled quite a few of the events this past weekend, but some events went on with adjusted times and some just kept on going. First, the ECSC 8K Saturday was wisely cancelled. Next, the Port Warwick 5K moved from Saturday to Friday. The change in dates was just fine for Portsmouth’s Ryan Carroll, who blazed the 3.1 mile course in a swift 15:39. Dianne Haupt was the Ladies Champ in 20:09.
While conditions were good Friday, Saturday morning, the rain soaked Runners that made it to the Patrick Henry Half Marathon were rewarded with a run to remember. Erin Swain of Arlington, VA broke the tape for the Ladies in 1:26:14 and Richmond’s Marcus Jones was the Overall winner in 1:16:29. Chesapeake’s Mollie Turner was the fastest from Hampton Roads with a strong 1:30:02. Hampton’s David Lockard was just seven seconds behind in 1:30:09. Congratulations to everyone who braved the elements!
Time to Go Long!
This is the big Running weekend in Hampton Roads. The Rock and Roll Half Marathon will send off over 20,000 runners at the Oceanfront. I have mentioned several great “Friends of The Blog”, including Ryan Carroll, who will be running and pushing for Team Hoyt. Ryan loves the challenging runs. Remember the “Military Challenge?”
See if this jogs your memory:
This time the local frontrunner is pushing for a cause. He’s well surpassed his fund raising goal and is truly what I like to call a “Monster of the Mid-Atlantic” on the courses. Team Hoyt is a great group and you may see some familiar faces this weekend:
Best wishes to him and all those running for a cause, including Team in Training, TASK, Team Challenge for Crohns & Colittis, ASPCA, the Susan Komen Race for the Cure, MS, and the American Cancer Society. So many great charities- I hope I did them justice….
Gotta Run- We Never Rest!
I’ll be out there Sunday as well, logging those miles at the Oceanfront and enjoying the great music along the course. If I’m lucky, I may get an interview or two for you. Either way, “Good Luck!” Maybe, I’ll see you soon… “On The Run!”
