Speeding through the “757″
Summer usually lightens the local race schedule, but that doesn’t seem to stop Runners here. They go where the action is. This past weekend, the Cremator 50 mile Ultra was run in Hilton Head, South Carolina featuring 10 miles of trail running, several bridges, bike paths and sidewalks. Virginia Beach’s Tommy Neeson actually won the event in 8:12. That’s eight hours in the heat. Congrats, Tommy! Have several cold drinks and an Ice Bath to celebrate!
Closer to home, Chesapeake’s Greg Smith also ventured out Saturday to celebrate his 40th birthday, he attempted to run 40 miles. Although he shortened the run after eight hours in the sun and heat, he was joined by several runners in Hampton Roads to help along the way. We Runners do like great challenges. I hear that 41 on his 41st is in the works already…
Results, Results, Results
This past weekend, the Run for the Homefront at Camp Pendleton drew nearly 200 of you to brave the conditions. Alexey Popov was the Overall winner in 19:19, while 17 year old, Courtney Gwin, of Virginia Beach was the Ladies Champ in 21:49.
The Allen Stone Run, Swim, Run featured a 1.2 mile run, a swim of the same distance, and a 5K run as well. The 5K was speedy for Portsmouth’s Ryan Carroll, blazing the trail in 15:30, while the Fastest Female was Jamie Dockiewicz, racing to the finish in 19:00. The Run/Swim Combination was won by Andrew Farrell in 36:13, followed by Masters great, John Lomogda, in 36:33. Diane Haupt was the Ladies Winner with a strong 41:57.
