Help me fight childhood cancersNovember 5th, 2010 at 1:07 pm by Stephanie Harris under Health, Personalities
Almost everyone knows someone who has had cancer. Its always terrible, but when the patient is a child it is almost unbearable. My family knows this pain first hand. Two years ago my niece, then age 5, was diagnosed with a type of kidney cancer. Today she is cancer free, but fear of recurrence will probably plague her and her parents for the rest of their lives.
The fear and pain they live with is shared by far too many. Every year Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters in Norfolk diagnoses about three classrooms full of children with cancer- that’s 70 new cases.
Next weekend you can help fight the good fight against childhood cancers right here in Hampton Roads. Curesearch, a National Childhood Cancer Foundation, is holding a walk on Saturday November 13th! There will be fun activities, music and treats for all of you to enjoy. Registration begins at 9AM at Mt. Trashmore. If you’d rather just make a donation you can do that too. Check out the Hampton Roads Walk web page.
See you there!
