Just outside of Franklin to the north. We dont have much but its very quaint and quiet. Also make a point to stop by Hubbard Peanut Company and enjoy some peanuts of different flavors. There are many little rural towns in Southampton County and they all have their own styles!

There’s a good restaurant nearby called Fred’s, and when I last lived there, they had concerts every so often. The food is great, the service comes with a smile, sometimes we’d see Fred, and the bill won’t break your bank. They were flooded (as was most of Franklin) during Floyd, but they rebuilt, and everyone was glad they did. Parker Drug across the street is a nice little mom and pop’s kind of establishment where you can get everything from prescriptions to candles, and you can grab lunch at their little diner. There’s not a whole lot to do in Franklin, but there are a few special places there that make it worth a visit. Just down the road from Franklin is Sedley, and they have a nice little fireworks disply for July 4th in the evening, and a small town parade during the day.

A little further west on 58 (about 10 minutes) is the town of Courtland, and they have a few little gems, too. If you like art, the Rawls Museum Arts has a nice collection, and if you like history, the Southampton Historical Society opens up the Rochelle-Prince house every so often. President John Tyler’s son lived there, and it’s a charming little house with lots of history. There’s also a museum dedicated to the area’s agriculture and farming heritage, if that’s your thing. There’s a good family-owned Italian restaurant there called Pinos, and the food there is oh-so-good, and is extremely reasonably priced.

Nothing exotic by any means, but there are some nice, quiet things to do where you can get away from the hustle and bustle of city life.
