Noreaster New Info
The new forecast is for the high tide this evening to hit 7.5 feet above mean low water level or average low tide. Stick a ruler in that water and measure up 7.5 feet…that’s how high the water should go this evening. This morning it hit 6.7 feet..so a good 10 inches higher…and compare that to 7.9 feet for Isabel…and that’s only a few inches below Isabel! Here’s the deal. The current near shore wind during the early morning hours is 50-60 mph. I believe those winds will decrease slightly through the afternoon…if they don’t…then that wind will push even more water into the coastal zones and the flood could come too close to Isabel levels. Stay tuned on this one.

How about the roads and flooding in Hampton and Newport News? The company my husband works for has closed all offices on the southside but none over here on the peninsula so I was trying to get an update on driving conditions, road closings, etc.
Just wanted to let you know that there’s a deep pool of water standing in the curve on 32 at the VA/NC state line. This is extemely dangerous as you don’t see it till you’re in it and there’s no signs to warn you. If you’re traveling this way please be careful. Stay safe.
To the person asking about trash collection:
* Beach trash collection has been suspended through Friday. Residents who normally would have waste collection Thursday will receive it next Thursday. Friday collection will be moved to Monday. Public Works will make an exception to our normal policy concerning excess trash. Residents will be allowed to place additional trash bags next to their trash container.
* In Newport News, all solid waste collections, garbage, recycling and bulk waste, have been canceled through Friday. Make up collections will occur as follows: For the week of Nov. 9, the regularly scheduled Wednesday collections will take place on Saturday and the regularly scheduled Thursday collections will occur on Monday. This will cause all regularly scheduled collections for the week of Nov. 16 to be delayed one day – Monday’s collections will take place on Tuesday, Tuesday’s on Wednesday, Wednesday’s on Thursday and Thursday’s on Friday. Please do not place carts curbside until your collection day. For questions on solid waste, debris and stormwater issues, call the Public Works Call Center at (757) 269-2700.
* In Norfolk, Thursday refuse collection is postponed until Saturday. Residents are urged to keep trash bins away from the curb until that time.
This is the worst I’ve seen the weather here in the 17 years i’ve been in hampton roads. I live in Howe farms and the street is flooded (haywagon) we are without power and the water levels continue to climb. At this point we are watching as the water slowly crawls into our garage. Stay safe all.
I am totally disapointed in WAVY. The folks in Williamsburg receive very little in the way of information during this terrible storm. Parts have been are flooding just as the rest of Hampton Roads. No one is reporting anything here. A little more information out here would be helpful.
Great Bridge, Chesapeake: Forest Lakes Subdivision (off of Waters Road and Washington Drive) is living up to its name. Front and back entrances flooded as are courts within the the subdivision.
The wind has really picked up in Virginia Beach over the last hour or so. The gusts are shaking the house. Incredible!
Why did we not get to see Brian Williams this eve.????????????
Do we really need to have weather news non-stop? I know it is raining, and we have high windsm but can we get a break??
Well he’s only doing his job… complain when they report too much, complain when they report to little.
Personally I like the extended coverage the storm is getting. I just wish they had made a really big deal about it days ago when we could have prepared. A Nor’easter gets nowhere near the hype as a hurricane but they’ve traditionally caused more damage.
I don’t know where they’re getting the high tide numbers from bet they don’t reflect what I’m seeing at my house. The high tide tonight was at least 8-12 inches HIGHER than Isabel. All the talk about the tide being lower than Isabel had raised my hopes since our house didn’t flood during that storm. But by 6:00 this evening we had the river at our back door and it almost made a full circle around the house.
