When Will It End?

Rain, rain, and more rain.  After our record rainfall the other day in Norfolk, there is more rain in the forecast.  An upper level low is sitting right on top of us.  A surface low is going to spin up and move in from the east/southeast.  This is a retrograding low that just adds to the 21 flavor ice cream mix of weird weather that we’ve had over the past year.  We could get some heavy rain again.  Here is the latest 1-2 day forecast from HPC (the Hydrometeorological Prediction Center):

HPC

The highest amounts of rain are forecast north of the metro.  But we could still see some good amounts on the Peninsula and Southside.  Outside of the heavy rain, the winds will be persistent.  ENE winds of 15-25mph will be blowing for several hours.  This will lead to some minor (possibly moderate) tidal flooding tonight into tomorrow.  Mostly on the southwest end of the bay and on the Eastern Shore.  High tide will generally be in the 1-2 hours after midnight and shortly after midday tomorrow.  The highest tide for Wachapreague will be between 6 and 6.5ft around midday tomorrow.  This will be in the minor tidal category, but if the winds pick up then the rise will also increase a little.  We’ll monitor.

The good news is that things should begin to dry up on Friday.  The weekend forecast is looking good.  Partly cloudy both days and highs in the low-mid 80s.
