Keep Em Coming!
We’ve had some great photos sent in by viewers lately. Thanks so much, and keep them coming.

We had some strong thunderstorms Friday evening. This was sent in by Shawn Albin in Portsmouth. Great shot of the lightning in the distance.
We had heavy rain over the Outer Banks. A viewer from Corolla, Ginny, reported close to 4″ of rain. These clouds give you an idea of the amount of moisture in the atmosphere:

this is a photo of the tall cumulinmbus clouds from Jim Brickett while he was in Western Branch, Chesapeake yesterday. It really shows the depth of the clouds well.

Finally, this was taken from Mark in Suffolk. Really cool colors in the clouds. It must have been close to sunset to get the reds in there like that. Great photos all.
Today we’ll see more scattered showers and thunderstorms. They’ll start up around midday. A very weak cold front is moving through the region, but temps will only be a couple of degrees cooler than yesterday. Humidity is still high. But winds are from the Northeast. So it won’t be as bad near the shore. Tomorrow high pressure will build in a little more. Plus the humidity should decrease a little. So I think partly cloudy skies for Sunday with a slight chance of a shower or thunderstorm.

Will we ever see 3 or 4 days without rain again? This is crazy.
We left the Kempsville area of VaBch yesterday at 1PM to travel to Northwest River Park for a company picnic. Decided to go via Salem Rd. Bolt lightning dead ahead. The rains became torrential, and speed limit declined to 5MPH with horrible visibility as the hail began pounding. We passed one large pine that was split open down its side, and then traffic came to a standstill at the draw bridge due a huge fallen tree across both lanes of Salem. Each car carefully turned around and headed back, and heading back towards Indian River Rd we saw fences down and lots of tree debris in the road. We thought we’d see reports of possible tornadic activity on the evening news!! WAS there a tornado in Virginia Beach yesterday around 1:30 PM?
Dear Don Slater
My 12 year old grandson is visiting & we were discussing lightening & thunder. He does not believe me or his father that lightening causes thunder. We tried to explain to him that lightening does cause the thunder. I told him I would send you an email & have you explain this to him. I told him I was going to write to a meteorologist & prove it to him. I think he will believe your response. Thank you for you help.
