Moving Along

Just like these folks, the weather has been moving along calmly and quietly over the past couple of days.  This shot was taken by Dan Sias near the HRBT earlier this week.  We’ve been a little milder this week than last.  We’ve had some showers here and there, but we haven’t been too stormy.  Tomorrow we’ll see some scattered showers and storms as another front lingers through the area.  Some of us will get a little cool down.  Some of us will stay warm  (Probably Northeast North Carolina).  The forecast is for scattered showers and storms along that front.  We’ll be warmer for Saturda as the warm front moves through.  It isn’t expected to be stormy for a good part of the day, but the models are showing scattered showers and storms moving in by the evening.  A strong cold front will move through late Saturday and cool things down for Sunday and Monday.  Highs on Sunday will be in the upper 60s to lower 70s.  Highs on Monday….near 60.  Pretty cool!  No,  not the Fonz kind of cool.  Our average high for this time of year is about 74 degrees.  Today we hit 78.

Here’s a rain tally from the National Weather Service for Norfolk International.  So far this year we’ve picked up 13.09″ of rain.  This is 3.32″ below the average of 16.41″.  10″ have fallen since March 1st.  We’ve picked up 2.45″ so far this month.  It won’t hurt my feelings if the rain keeps coming.  Maybe not every day though.

By the way… Don Slater and I are watching the GFS model (remember that from snow forecasts).  It has been hinting at a POSSIBLE tropical depression just east of florida.  It’s a little early yet, but not out of the question.  We’ll monitor.  The season doesn’t start until June 1st, but mother nature doesn’t follow a calendar.
