Lookin For Storms

May 1st, 2009 at 2:06 pm by Jeremy Wheeler under Weather

It’s Friday afternoon and I’m monitoring for storm development.  The humidity is up across the region.  (Dewpoints are in the 60s).  We had enough sun pop out to pop the temps up to the 80s in a few places.  The Storm Prediction Center has put part of the area under a slight risk for severe storms this afternoon, and they mentioned that a watch is possible.  Based off the latest radar we’ll probably see 30-40% coverage for the afternoon.  Any storms that form could create some strong wind gusts and possibly some small hail.  The winds aloft aren’t that strong so the storms shouldn’t move too fast.  It’s also why we may not see a watch posted today.  The upper level support is not that strong.  So the storms will pop up in places, but they won’t stay up.  We call those pulse type storms.  I sure hope my yard gets some rain.
