BOOM! Your Guess Is As Good As Mine
The “boom” and “flash in the sky” are still generating a lot of talk, but there are still no definite answers. One thing is for sure– viewers all say they saw the same thing. 10 On Your Side viewer Ralph Snell in Virginia Beach caught the flash on video. The camera picked up what many of you told us you saw: bright, streaking lights. A scientist with the U-S Naval Observatory believes pieces of a Russian rocket caused the spectacle over Virginia Sunday night. However, there are now other reports that say that rocket re-entered the Earth’s atmosphere over Taiwan. So, I did some more digging and spoke with the Air Force today. The Joint Space Operations Center in California which tracks man-made objects says Sunday’s event was not on their radar. The Operations Center tracks man-made objects larger than softballs. An object smaller than a softball would not have caused such a loud boom and bright flash. Based on that, many experts believe it was a large meteor called a bolide. Was it a meteor? A rocket? Something else? We really may never know for sure.

I am mad at the military about this object. We have the largest Naval Base in the world, which makes them a prime target. The military said they do not know about it? How safe do you feel? A long range incoming missile could happen and we would not know about it until it goes BOOM. This is what the media should be focusing on.
