Floods North, Storms South, How Bout Us?

Things are picking up across the U.S. in terms of Spring weather.  A big system moved through Mississippi and caused several tornadoes.  One tornado in particular moved through Magee in Southern Mississippi and really ripped up the area.  Click here for the story:    Tornado

In the North another problem has arisen.  Flooding!  Record snowfall, melting, and some rain has created historical flooding along the Red River.  This is especially bad for North Dakota’s largest city, Fargo.  Click here for the story:  Red River

As far as Hampton Roads is concerned we will see rain for a few days on and off.  We’ll see showers tonight and early tomorrow.  In the morning we’ll have a few showers, but this will end by mid morning.  A few showers will continue across North Carolina.   Saturday we’ll see scattered showers.  Scattered thunderstorms will move in late on Saturday and continue through Sunday morning.  We could see some strong storms with possible severe winds.   The Storm Prediction Center has us under a slight risk for severe weather for late Saturday/early Sunday.

Some people misinterpret the word “slight” to mean that there is a very low chance for severe weather.  There is a slight chance that it will fall within 25 miles from your home, but it means that there is a better chance for severe than a normal day with thunderstorms.  It’s a couple days out.  We’ll refine the chances.  These systems need a few things to come together in order for severe weather to occur.  We probably won’t have a lot of sunshine, but there is a lot of energy.  We’ll update.
