Weekend Thunderstorms

March 25th, 2009 at 5:55 pm by Jeremy Wheeler under Weather

We haven’t had too many storms lately.  Instead we’ve had a lot of cloudy and cool weather.  We’ve even seen snow or mixes over the last month or two.  There have been several periods of showers over the last 3 weeks, but there hasn’t been a lot of instability.  Now it seems like we’ll get some storms going late Saturday into early Sunday.   Over the next 2-3 days we do have a chance for rain, but the storms look like they’ll wait until the weekend.  At least we’ll finally get a chance to warm things up.  50s and 60s on Thursday and Friday.  Saturday will be in the upper 60s to near 70.  I’ll take a few storms in order to finally get some warmth.  It’s a little early to talk about severe possibilities though.  We will keep an eye on the models and let you know.

Sometimes my job here feels like 3 seasons.  Hurricane season, Winter Season, and Severe Season.  April, May, and June are when the big storms develop across the Central/Eastern U.S., so that’s when severe weather is most common for us.   We’ll be talking about a lot of severe weather safety over the next month.  I guess these 3 seasons are better than in Chicago.  We had 2 seasons there.   Winter and Traffic.
