A Little Excitement For Some

As expected, scattered rain showers mixed with and changed to snow showers this afternoon/evening.  Quite a few calls came into the weather center.  Thanks for the “ground truth” - it always helps.  :)   I even got some reports of snow in Virginia Beach.  Because temperatures were above freezing at the surface, nothing stuck to the roads.  However, in areas where it briefly snowed hard enough (a snow squall is what we’d call it in upstate New York), there was a dusting.  However, because temperatures were above 32 at ground level, the snow melted within 5-15 minutes.  Peeks of sunshine helped to speed up the melting process too.  As we move into tonight, temperatures will drop below freezing.  Skies will be clear, and there will be a bit of a breeze in spots.  Any standing water on the roadways will likely freeze, so watch out for a few isolated spots of black ice on roadways and sidewalks tonight.  It will be rather chilly across our area over the next few days so don’t forget to bring the pets inside.
