Cooler…Not Cooler…Cooler…Not Cooler
In the flavor of the great Valentine’s game “She loves me…She loves me not…” Our temperatures have been fluctuating today. We started with a nice warmup. Temperatures were going into the 60s. We had a North/Northwest wind. Then the wind changed to northeast around noon and temps dropped. I always say that a small change in the wind direction around here can change everything. Look at these 2pm temps:
Low 50s with even some upper 40s near the shore. Upper 60s inland (Ahoskie). Jon Cash noticed the switch during the midday show and changed the afternoon forecast. Models have a tough time with a large temperature gradient (A big difference in value in a small area) by the way.
As far as the forecast. Valentines Day is lookiing a little drier now. Maybe a few afternoon sprinkles or light showers. We’ve warmed up the Valentine forecast a little as well since yesterday. Looks like we’ll see seasonable temperatures over the next few days. Think we’ll see a big warmup again next week around midweek. Probably warmer than we have in the current forecast. The GFS has a big low to our Northwest which will create some more strong winds. This will be followed by another huge drop in temperatures. Probably Thursday. Again, this is IF the GFS pans out. It’s almost like we’re transitioning into a Spring type pattern. Big storms, active jetstream, big warmups/cooldowns. That wouldn’t bode too well for snow in the short term, but it may increase sales of cold and flu medicines.
