Snowy Update
Still expecting some good snow accumulations in the area. In general I’m seeing a swath of 2-6″ for the Southside down to Northeast North Carolina. Our in-house model has more snow as far North as the Middle Peninsula, Northern Neck and Eastern Shore. A little less in North Carolina. Compared to the other models anyway. Other models focus a bit more on the Watch Area. Again that’s the Winter Storm Watch that was posted for Southside Virginia and Northeast North Carolina earlier today. That may be extended further north. I’ve been adding up the amounts using Fous and Maps. Cheryl Nelson is great at using bufkit and she gave me the info from that. (Bufkit is a common meteorology tool at the Universities). On average they are running 5-6″ for Norfolk. If it snows all day, then I believe that some places will easily see over 6 inches.
HOLD ON THOUGH. It’s still early. Things will change. Chief meteorologist Don Slater will give his thoughts during tonight’s Newscasts. He’s been through a lot of these events and is always steady in presenting the situation.

A Winter Storm Warning is a statement made by the National Weather Service of the United States which means a winter storm is occurring or is about to occur in the area, usually within 24 hours. Generally, a Winter Storm Warning is issued if at least 6 or more inches of snow or 3 or more inches of snow with a large accumulation of ice is forecast. Usually, a large accumulation of ice alone with no snow will result in either a Winter Weather Advisory, Ice Storm Warning, or in the case of light freezing rain, a Freezing Rain or Drizzle Advisory.Well was they talking bout some where else
