Bitter Cold Tips And Next Chance For Snow
Temperatures will drop today. They’ll keep dropping until we hit our lows in the teens tonight. Upper teens in the metro. Low-mid teens inland. Highs tomorrow in the 20s. Lows tomorrow night will be in the teens with a few single digits possible. So… here are some tips to combat the cold. First, let your faucets drip overnight. The drip alleviates the pressure in the water lines so that a pipe freeze won’t block the flow. Bring in any pets that live outside. If you can’t bring them in your house, then try to set them up in the garage or another shelter. Wind chills affect animals as well as humans. Block any cracks in your home where the air can get in. If you don’t have one of those draft guards, then just use an old towel for along the door’s edge. Remember, It’s not permanent. You may want to head to the store to buy the plastic that can cover the windows. Some stores even have large plastic that can cover bay windows. I bought one of those packs back in November. You can find them at the hardware stores and some department stores. You should check on the elderly. Especially if there heating unit is not so good. Finally, check your vehicle’s antifreeze.
The next chance for snow is Sunday night into Monday morning. One computer model (GFS) spits out a couple of inches. I’m expected scattered showers to turn into scattered snow showers by the evening. It’s still early though. I’ll update this through the weekend so stay tuned.
