757 at JMU

Where are our local football players going to college? More and more are going to James Madison in Harrisonburg. When I went up to JMU’s campus, I could see why. It reminded me of my time at Michigan State covering sports over there. The town is a “college town.” I’ve always liked those.

Anyways, enough about me liking the campus. A lot of our football players obviously like the campus, too. I was talking with center Scott Lemn from Kemsville High School in Virginia Beach. He says most of the people he meets on campus are actually from our area.

Success is one of the reasons our kids go there. They have a chance this year to play for a national championship. They’re ranked No. 1 in the country and they have some of the most exciting players in the country. Tallwood High School’s Rodney Landers is the quarterback. According to their coach, Mickey Matthews, Landers is a game-changer. He says only one other guy in that he’s coached could do it as well as Landers. That was Champ Bailey. Matthews coached him at Georgia.

If you don’t consider JMU a local team, you need to check the roster again. This team will be fun to watch, and root for, the rest of the year.
